Bio

I am a Colombian filmmaker and writer. I was born in Guateque, Boyacá. I live in Barcelona. My work moves between fiction film, literary narrative, and the essay—always in dialogue with Lacanian psychoanalysis, contemporary philosophy, and the question of what artificial intelligence is doing to human experience. My education is academic, though I practice it outside the academy. I hold a PhD in Social Studies from Universidad Externado de Colombia, where I researched the imaginaries of creative industries through semiotics and hermeneutics. I undertook a second doctorate in Comparative Literature at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, focused on Beckett, Borges, and Céline through Lacanian ordinary psychosis and AI. I abandoned it. Not from failure: because the research needed to become films and books, not more theses. I also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Critical Theory. I was expelled from NYU. I have published in indexed journals (SCOPUS) on entrepreneurship, psychoanalysis, and digital culture. I direct Rumbo a Peor Films, a collective of independent production based in Barcelona. The name comes from Beckett and is a program: make cinema with absolute rigor and whatever resources exist, without waiting for someone to grant permission. My short films have been selected at festivals in Stockholm, Navarra, Ahmedabad, Los Angeles, Bogotá, and Barcelona, among others.

All of old. Nothing else ever. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. — Samuel Beckett, Worstward Ho

Writing

I have published three books: El Maluverso (Editorial Calixta), Más Allá de la Loma, and De Rumba en la 51. MADLL was submitted for the Juan Goytisolo Prize and the Biblioteca Breve Prize from Seix Barral. I am currently working on my most ambitious novel: ¿Mami me volví loco? (or Chronicle of a Millennial Apocalypse). Three narrative lines interweave a post-apocalyptic Colombia where revolution happens via TikTok, a dystopian world of virtual reality capsules, and a writer locked in his mother’s house writing her letters while artificial intelligence invades the text he is trying to compose. The novel integrates psychoanalysis, humor, poetry, political violence, and a reflection on authorship in the age of AI. It is an epistolary work, metafictional and profoundly Latin American. I maintain an archive of more than forty stories, five diaries, and poetry. I write a blog on artificial intelligence, psychoanalysis, writing, and contemporary forms of madness.

Theoretical Framework

Tropical Psychotic Postexistentialism: A conceptual framework that articulates my entire output. It is not a slogan: it is a theoretical proposal I developed in my essay Mapping Tropical Psychotic Postexistentialism Through Cinema and which runs through every film, every text, every formal decision. Three components.

Post-existentialism: We inherit the meaning crisis of existentialism, but now even the subject seeking meaning is unstable—AI, algorithms, and digital culture have fragmented it.

Psychotic: Not as individual pathology but as the “ordinary psychosis” that Lacan theorized—the contemporary condition of functioning socially while the perception of the real has been fundamentally altered.

Tropical: Reflection does not emerge from Central European solemnity but from a Latin American sensibility that integrates the body, humor, rhythm, and fiesta as legitimate forms of knowledge and resistance.

This framework allows me to read my work as a coherent project: cinema, literature, essays, and academic research all operate within the same system of thought.
